We take pride in being one of the first Trauma Informed Care programs in the nation. Often it is the case that some form of trauma is what is causing boys to get off track in life. Our dedicated team specializes in working with a myriad of life-disrupting issues, including boys affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s).
Students in our program gain individualized opportunities to work through Adverse Childhood Experiences and other life-disrupting concerns.
We are dedicated to helping our students work through childhood trauma that may today be causing them to act out, be unmotivated or angry or depressed, or to misbehave. We especially make certain that we do no further damage to already fragile emotional states. Therefore, punishments for missteps are avoided at all costs and focus is placed on positive ways for the boy to achieve self-regulation.
Each new student at JLA attends Focus training. It is geared toward helping them understand and verbalize what makes them feel, and sometimes act out, as they do. This self-knowledge and understanding allow us to help them leave the past behind and focus on a future that is clear from old adversities.
